Muscat 27th May 2021, Oman Cables has been awarded a contract to supply 3,000 km of photovoltaic PRYSUN™ Cables Made in Oman for the Al Kharsaah solar power plant in Qatar. The cables will be manufactured at Oman Cables Industry’s facility located in Rusayl.
Al Kharsaah power plant, built by Siraj Energy, Marubeni and Total is one of the largest photovoltaic stand-alone power generation projects. The plant is the first of its kind in the state of Qatar, with a total capacity of 800 MW which equals about 10% of Qatar’s current peak electricity demand. With an estimated total cost of QR 1.7 billion ($467 million), the Large-Scale Solar PV Power Plant will be constructed at Al-Kharsaah area approximately 80km west of capital, Doha.
Oman Cables launched PRYSUN™ solar cable in 2021. PRYSUN™ is fully compliant with the applicable global standards; European standard EN 50618 and the more recently released international standard IEC 62930, which specify technical requirements for solar applications and ultimately protect users from substandard cables. Both standards are the global reference for special cables in DC sections of PV installations. These cables are designed to withstand the demanding conditions of PV projects in the Middle East and are certified by TUV. PRYSUN™ Solar cables are designed for the interconnection of various elements in photovoltaic systems, including panel interconnection, between panels and string boxes or from string boxes to the inverter. PRYSUN™ is the technology transfer as a result of the integration between Prysmian Group and Oman Cables with global technology and know-how sharing to achieve the best answer for solar cable needs.
Al Kharsaah will provide sustainable, affordable and clean energy to industries, services and individuals through the Qatari grid starting from 2021 with an initial 350 MWp capacity before reaching its full capacity in 2022. It will reduce the CO2 emissions of Qatar by 26 million tons during the life of the project, supporting the Qatar’s aim to achieve carbon emissions reduction of one million tonnes a year until 2022.
The project will include application of the latest solutions and innovations in solar energy technology, including use of dual panels, utilizing state-of-the-art automated systems to track the sun and the use of robots in the continuous cleaning of solar panels to ensure the continuity of production efficiency and reduce plant operating costs.
Oman cables is pleased to be part of Qatar’s emerging solar energy outlook and continues to deliver solutions to prestigious projects as part of its product innovation journey.
